Every 6 months is the recommended minimum for overhead and underground storage tanks in Ghana. Tanks in areas with high sediment content in the mains water supply, or those that have experienced discolouration or odour, should be cleaned more frequently — every 3–4 months. If your tank has not been cleaned in over a year, a disinfection treatment after cleaning is strongly recommended.
Discoloured water (brown, yellow, or grey), unusual taste or odour, visible sediment or slime in water, algae growth around the tank inlet, or illness among household members are all signs that your tank needs immediate cleaning and disinfection. In Accra's heat, bacterial contamination can develop quickly in neglected tanks.
Yes — after we complete the clean and disinfection, we advise flushing the tank with fresh water before resuming normal use. We recommend allowing at least 30 minutes after the final rinse before drawing water for drinking or cooking. We'll confirm this is done before we leave.
Yes — we clean both overhead rooftop tanks and underground storage tanks. Underground tanks require different access equipment and a slightly different procedure but are fully within our scope. Let us know your tank type when booking.
Uncleaned tanks accumulate sediment, biofilm, algae, and bacteria over time. In Ghana's climate, Legionella, E. coli, and other waterborne pathogens can multiply rapidly in warm, stagnant water. This is a direct health risk, particularly for children and the elderly. Regular tank cleaning is one of the most important household health maintenance tasks.
